Experienced Parent Visa Agent in Melbourne – Sponsor Your Family with Confidence

Australia offers several types of parent visas, allowing parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens to join their families in Australia. These visas are divided into temporary and permanent categories, each with specific requirements and processing times.

Permanent Parent Visas

  • Subclass 103 Parent Visa: This visa allows parents to live in Australia permanently and potentially apply for citizenship. However, it has a long processing time, often up to 30 years, due to capping and queuing.
  • Contributory Parent Visas  (Subclass 173 and Subclass143):  Subclass 173 is a temporary visa that allows parents to live in Australia for up to two years; it cannot be renewed, but it provides a pathway to apply for the permanent Subclass 143 visa within this period. Subclass 143 grants permanent residency, allowing parents to live indefinitely in Australia and access benefits similar to those of Australian residents.
  • Contributory Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 884 and Subclass 864) Subclass 884 is a temporary visa allowing aged parents to live in Australia for up to two years, providing a pathway to apply for the permanent Subclass 864 visa within this period. Subclass 864 grants permanent residency, enabling aged parents to live indefinitely in Australia with full work rights and access to Medicare
  • Contributory Parent Visas (Subclass 143/864): These visas provide a faster pathway to permanent residency but require a substantial financial contribution. The processing time is typically around 6 to 12 years.
  • Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 804): Available for parents over 67 years old who are already in Australia. This visa also has a lengthy processing time.

Temporary Parent Visas

  •  Subclass 870 Sponsored Parent Visa: This temporary visa allows parents to stay in Australia for up to 3 or 5 years without meeting the balance of family test. It provides a more flexible option for parents who do not wish to migrate permanently.

Key Requirements

  • Balance of Family Test: Most permanent parent visas require at least half of the applicant’s children to reside in Australia.
  • Sponsorship: Applicants must be sponsored by their child, who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. The sponsor must have lived in Australia legally for at least two years.
  • Financial Assurance: Some visas require an Assurance of Support, which is a commitment to repay any social security benefits claimed by the visa holder.

These visa options cater to various needs and circumstances, providing pathways for parents to join their families in Australia either temporarily or permanently.

Types of Parent Visas

Permanent Parent Visa (Subclass 103)

  • This is a non-contributory visa type, allowing parents a permanent stay in Australia.
  • The processing time is lengthy and may often exceed 25–30 years because of the queuing limits and annual capping.
  • The parent should meet the Balance of Family Test.
  • The parent should be sponsored by an eligible child.

Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 173 & 143

  • The parent visa Subclass 173, though, is a temporary visa type (up to 2 years), which makes the route to the permanent Subclass 143 visa type.
  • The Subclass 173 isn’t renewable, but allows transition to Subclass 143, which offers parents permanent residence, full study and work rights, and access to Medicare.
  • The processing time is comparatively shorter, typically lasting for around 6–12 years.
  • As part of the contributory scheme, the application charge is higher.

Contributory Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 884 & 864)

  • If the parents are aged 67 years or above, and are already on a valid visa in Australia, the Subclass 884 offers temporary residence, whereas the Subclass 864 offers permanent residence.
  • Subclass 884 allows temporary residence for only up to 2 years.
  • Subclass 864 is a permanent visa that allows indefinite stay, along with Medicare access and full work rights in Australia.
  • The only condition here is that the parents should meet the specific age and residence requirements.

Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 804)

  • This visa type offers permanent residence to parents aged 67 years or above, already in Australia.
  • The parents should meet the Balance of Family Test.
  • As the processing time is too long, up to 30 years, a bridging visa allows applicants to be in Australia till the process is completed.

Temporary Parent Visa - Sponsored Parent Visa (Subclass 870)

  • This visa type is flexible, allowing parents to live in Australia for a minimum of 3-5 years at a stretch, and a maximum of 10 years.
  • This visa doesn’t offer work rights.
  • Parents should have sponsorship from an approved child who is either a permanent resident of Australia, an Australian citizen, or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
  • The sponsoring child should have lived in Australia for at least 2 years.
  • Parents aren’t required to meet the Balance of Family Test.
  • The processing times are faster compared to permanent parent visa types.
